Three New Comic Book Acquisitions
Always happy to show off new comics added to my collection.
If you’ve followed my collection, you know I look for the obscure publishers, especially during WW2 and before.
Here’s an interesting issue from Conqueror Comics.
This single comic by Albrecht Publishing Company is VERY interesting - According to Grand Comics Database, Albrecht “apparently only published one comic. Address given as 221 Conyngham Street, Wilkes Barre, Pa. in Conqueror Comics #1. That address was the location of "Central Color Press, Inc.", a printing company owned by Victor Fox c1947-1951.” There’s only 8 of them graded in CGC census data. You can read it at the Digital Comic Museum.
My other issue is a Vic Jordon #1
Civil Service Publications is on the inside (published quarterly) and the copyright is under Field Publications 1944. However, according to Grand Comics Database, Leader Enterprises, Inc. is the controlling publisher due to a merger between publishers. They used a lot of names like Civil Service Publications, Inc. | Civil Service Publications, Incorporated | Leader Enterprises | Leader Enterprises, Inc. | Pentagon Publishing Co. | Pentagon Publishing Company. GCD states their publisher was Jerry Finkelstein, who co-founded The Civil Service Leader in 1939.
You can find this issue on Digital Comic Museum. This appears to be the only issue but the publisher did have several other issues like Slick Chick Comics, Claire Voyant, etc. There are 6 graded issues in the CGC database.
Less obscure is Tales of the Tomb from Dell Giant comics.
I went for this because it’s a #1 Issue plus it seems to be a one off and I have a soft spot for horror covers. It’s a large issue with 84 pages and the 25 cent price was expensive in 1962 for a comic.
