A Continuing Battle Between Comics and Writing Novels
Please excuse my updates, or lack thereof, on Substack. I’m heavily invested in a side project involving a webnovel while finishing up Battered Soul and Jealous Gods comics chapters. Those items are on top of my script work for a graphic novel that Vin and I plan on doing called Freak Show.
UPCOMING ITEMS
FREAK SHOW - A graphic novel
As I’ve reported on earlier postings, Freak Show is a series of horror/dark fantasy stories linked by a wandering traveler called Colonel Winthrop E. Smith. The Colonel travels from one small town to the next in an old hearse that appears much longer on the inside than the outside of the vehicle.
When he stops along the main street, he rolls out his Freak Show. With his mysterious female familiar, the Colon regales the patrons with his stories about each of the odd specimens and torture devices inside the hearse as they walk through. Unfortunately, a random customer discovers the cursed items inside the hearse brings about a personal misfortune soon after they leave the show.
Each night, the man and his assistant stop at a desolate crossroad for the night. Once known as the dark alchemist, Geber the Arab, the Colonel calls out a demon after drawing a Cosmogram and offering a copper coin and drawing his familiar’s blood as payment.
When the demon appears, they strike up a conversation where the Colonel recites his latest story of a doomed soul taken for the demon.
For those of you interested in this story, I plan on putting it into a Kickstarter campaign so your support would mean a lot to me. More details are coming when we have more panels to show along with the campaign information as well. For now, I can give you Colonel Smith and his familiar.
Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead - Another Novel for Ray Irish Series
In the two years following his departure from Oyster City, Ray Irish no longer has an office. Instead, the ex-private detective works whatever odd jobs that he can find. After he returned to his home state, Irish settle down in a small house with a leaky roof outside of Casper, Wyoming. Moving on from his violence-filled profession, he lives in a self-imposed boring existence. However, an old friend of his father talks Ray out for a simple job concerning a wayward cousin. Before long, Irish finds himself in the middle of a missing widower and his daughter.
Before long, his attempts to stay out of anything that smells of the paranormal come to a breaking point when a young woman he met once in the library seeks his help. What Irish doesn’t realize is his path leads into strange events concerning a grotesque statue that appears to seek the blood of a family. As the deaths pile up, Irish carries the eerie feeling that he’s still can’t stop fate from bringing him into bizarre supernatural mysteries.
