I NEED YOUR THOUGHTS!
I’m in the process of developing out the script for the second arc of Jealous Gods. As I noticed I’m not getting any reactions (good or bad) about the comics I’m putting out here and in the newsletters (or through Twitter when I promote them).
The original intent for using substack was the ability to showcase new novels and other stories I was working on. Also, I wanted to add my short stories in various genres as a way to grow interest and subscribers. Furthermore, I wanted to lay out tidbits of information I found that might help other writers.
As I moved into creating comics a couple of years ago, I found much of my time changed as I added the new illustrations and the full comics here help promote as well as increase paying subscribers. The unfortunate side effect of comics which I didn’t plan for is the cost to create these works. Also, I spent much more time on these projects than actual writing new books.
On top of that, I may have created a situation where those curious about my new/previous dark fantasy and mystery novels/works have little interest in the comics which tend to be more horror based. Also, the same might be said for those who became subscribers because of the comic creations may wish for me to continue to center my energy there. Unfortunately, Substack does not have a mechanism (that I’m aware of) to look through the visits to get an idea of the breakdown of interests inside the newsletters and pages I’ve developed for the site.
As for the current efforts, I haven’t committed to more Azathoth Fragments or Strange Twisted Tales which are costly to produce.
Vin, my Battered Soul artist is tied up with working on our graphic novel, Freak Show, (which we’ll try to fund through Kickstarter) so that comic looks to be in a hiatus as well. Which leaves me with Jealous Gods Chapter 2.
So, I’m leaving it up to subscribers of this site to help me with this decision using a POLL. Yeah, I know, not another poll. But please hit the button (less than 15 seconds) to let me know. Do you find the web comics interesting enough for me to continue?
For those wanting me to keep going, please send me a note/message as well to let me know your preferences in stories. I need your thoughts to continue down this path (at least on Substack).
Thanks for your thoughts. I agree wholeheartedly. However, I was concerned at the silence one way or another...lol.
I'm new to your newsletter so I can't give any insight other than you gotta do what you feel is best and love doing.
